Project engineer – Monitoring of (nuclear) manufacturing

Core mission
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year, we host over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to the Institute to carry out world-class research.
The successful candidate will join the Mechanical Engineering Service, which is part of the ILL’s Reactor Division and is responsible for the maintenance of equipment associated with the high-flux reactor. S/he will report directly to the Head of Service.
In the context of the manufacture of spare components (primarily beam tubes) for the reactor block, the successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring several manufacturing projects and will work under the supervision of a senior ILL engineer, who is in charge of mechanical manufacturing projects and is the Institute’s expert on nuclear pressure equipment (referred to as ESPN - Equipements Sous Pression Nucléaires).
This position may evolve into a project manager role (reactor modification projects).

Your tasks
  • Draft the manufacturing specifications, based on existing templates
  • Check the component drawings produced by the design office
  • Produce the technical documentation for calls for tender and participate in the selection of manufacturers
  • Put together the manufacturing documentation necessary for conformity assessment by the relevant approved certified body
  • Monitor the various manufacturing stages (procurement, machining, inspections, validations, deviation analyses, etc.)
  • Validate the final acceptance of the equipment
  • Update the internal regulatory documents relating to the reactor
Your profile
  • Level 7 qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or nuclear engineering, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of metalworking and welding (GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG or electron beam), ideally on the aluminium alloy Ag3Net, stainless steel or zircaloy
  • Experience in manufacturing within a nuclear quality assurance framework  
  • Knowledge of the regulations governing nuclear pressure equipment (ESPN) and of design and construction codes of the type RCC-MRx (or RCC-M) for mechanical reactor components  
  • Excellent writing skills (procedures, technical specifications, etc.)
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and will be required to work with several different actors (workshop staff, suppliers, inspection bodies).
  • Experience in monitoring technical projects (design, manufacture and installation).
