The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) is an international centre for scientific research situated in Grenoble, France. It is Europe's leading neutron science facility. We receive over 2000 visiting scientists per year to carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields. The Science Division currently has a vacancy for a:
Research Scientist (M/F) - NEUTRON REFLECTOMETRY -
The Large-Scale-Structures group comprises a range of instruments designed to carry out studies on the structure of matter on a scale of one to hundreds of nanometers. The range of science covered is broad, from polymer and colloid science through structural biology to materials science. Working within the LSS Group in the field of Neutron Reflectometry while carrying out your own active research programme on soft matter or biophysical systems at interfaces, you will be in charge of:
D17 is a state-of-the-art high flux, monochromatic and time-of-flight neutron reflectometer with a horizontal scattering plane. It is optimized for the study of vertical surfaces and buried interfaces (e.g. solid/liquid, solid/solid) over a wide range of length scales. Main research activities include the study of soft matter, materials, biological and magnetic systems thanks to the polarized neutron option.
Qualifications and experience:
Ph.D. in physics, biophysics or physical chemistry and experience in neutron or x-ray reflectometry. We are particularly interested in highly motivated candidates with experience of research in soft matter and/or biological systems at solid/liquid interfaces who wish to carry out a personal research programme and contribute to the scientific environment at the ILL. Good programming skills and a general interest in software development would be an asset.
The post represents an excellent opportunity for postdoctoral scientists to develop expertise, broaden experience and interact with leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their home institution will also be considered.
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French. Knowledge of German would be an advantage. Language courses will be paid for by the ILL.
Fixed-term contract of 5 years
